In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are highlighting top-rated mental health nonprofits around the country. These organizations work tirelessly to provide mental health treatment, education, resources, and support for those suffering from mental illness.

Center for Child Counseling, Inc.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL
This organization provides a safe place for young children and families affected by trauma or violence. Through trauma-informed counseling, the volunteers at the Center for Child Counseling support children ages 0-6 as they navigate through extremely difficult circumstances. The organization focuses on prevention, early intervention, and treatment.

Wedgwood Christian Services

Grand Rapids, MI
For more than 60 years, Wedgwood Christian Services has provided counseling, support, and hope for children, teens, and their families. The organization provides intensive therapy services for the youngest and most vulnerable: children affected by trauma, abuse, neglect, and mental illness.

SonRise Equestrian Foundation

Danville, CA
This organization helps children cope with a variety of mental illnesses, developmental delays, physical disabilities, trauma, behavioral issues, and other challenges through equine therapy. Each child receives individualized therapeutic horse and ranch training. SonRise also brings horses to visit children in hospice or with terminal illnesses.

Racing for Heroes

Beech Creek, PA
Every day, we lose 22 Veterans to suicide. Racing for Heroes aims to treat PTSD and other mental health disorders through wellness programs, mental health treatment, and motorsports therapy. The organization has participated in studies that show the adrenaline rush of motorsports can help combat PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.

In addition to counseling programs and motorsports-based programs, Racing for Heroes also provides employment opportunities to Veterans and their families.

Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento

Sacramento, CA
This nonprofit serves children during the most vulnerable and traumatic times in their young lives. The Children’s Receiving Home provides a safe space for children ages 0-18 who have experienced trauma, violence, sexual exploitation, or neglect. The children come to the Home with severe emotional trauma, and the organization works closely with state agencies to provide steady, loving care for each child, focusing intently on mental health treatment.

Sober Living America

Addiction affects millions of people, from all walks of life, in every part of the world. Sober Living America provides free treatment options for those starting on the road to recovery. The organization provides safe, structured treatment programs for the unemployed, underemployed, and homeless populations suffering from drug or alcohol addiction.

Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families

Casa Pacifica provides mental health treatment, counseling, and intervention services for children and families facing the most difficult time in their lives. The program uses multiple tools to keep families together, healthy, and safe. When necessary, the organization finds safe homes for children who have experienced trauma, giving them the help they need to thrive in spite of their hardships.

Through education, psychological counseling, crisis intervention, and other services, Casa Pacifica is changing the lives of families throughout south-central California.
