GreatNonprofits Unveils 2013 Top-Rated List of Nonprofits in San Francisco

How to Choose A Charity This Season Of Giving

Redwood Shores, Calif. – In 2013, an expected $375 billion will be donated to charities.   To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits has just released the 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofits List for San Francisco.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Awards is the charity world’s equivalent of the “People’s Choice Awards.”   More than 40,000 reviews were submitted nationwide by volunteers, program participants, and donors for the awards. Thirty-two nonprofits won spots on the Top-Rated List in San Francisco.  Nonprofits included organizations like Shanti Project, dedicated to closing the gap between people who receive comprehensive medical care and those who do not, to SF Smiles, an organization that furnishes the homes of under-served families.  Organizations based in San Francisco help not only the city but internationally as well. These organizations include Endangered Species International, TechSoup Global, and International Development Exchange. For a full list, click here.

The reviews came in the form of inspiring stories, like this one about Support for Families of Children with Disabilities:

When you learn you are a parent of a child with a disability, everything changes. There are questions, concerns, fears, and stresses about all of the things you need to do to give your child the best possible opportunities in a world where nothing is familiar. Support for Families begins offering support and information the moment you contact them. It is a very difficult thing for most people to ask for help, but the staff and volunteers at Support for Families makes this easier, with a real understanding and compassion for parents thrust into a new world.”

We’re in the giving season–when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofit List helps people easily find terrific charities, national or local, who are making a difference.”

Craig Newmark, a philanthropist and founder of craigslist.org said, “GreatNonprofits is a great service for people interested in inspiring others to donate and volunteer at their favorite nonprofits. Folks can rate charities and share their first-hand experience with the organization. Now people can help each other discover nonprofits doing good work in their town.”
