GreatNonprofits Unveils 2013 Top-Rated List of Nonprofits in New York

How to Choose A Charity This Season Of Giving

Redwood Shores, Calif. – In 2013, $375 billion is expected to be donated to charities.   To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits has just released the 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofits List for New York city.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Awards is the charity world’s equivalent of the ‘People’s Choice Awards’.   Over 40,000 reviews were submitted nation-wide by volunteers, program participants, and donors for the awards. Forty-nine nonprofits won spots on the Top-Rated List in New York city.  Nonprofits included organizations like New Heights that help inner city youth to Chashama, an organization that has transformed underutilized New York properties for over 16,000 artists.  Organizations based in New York help not only the city but internationally as well. These organizations include iEARN, NYC Medics, PCI Media Impact, Inc. For a full list, click here.

The reviews came in the form of inspiring stories, like this one about Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen:

This is a wonderful organization filled with amazing staff and volunteers. I’ve volunteered here many times and help to fund raise for their food program on social media. Not only are they the largest food program in NYC, feeding over 1,000 meals a day Monday through Friday all year round, and on Holidays, but they also offer a wealth of services to their patrons, which help better their lives. Do yourself a favor and go check out and volunteer here.

We’re in the giving season – when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofit List helps people easily find terrific charities, national or local, who are making a difference.”

Craig Newmark, a philanthropist and founder of craigslist.org said, “GreatNonprofits is a great service for people interested in inspiring others to donate and volunteer at their favorite nonprofits. Folks can rate charities and share their first-hand experience with the organization. Now people can help each other discover nonprofits doing good work in their town.”
