GreatNonprofits Unveils 2013 Top-Rated List of Nonprofits in Chicago

How to Choose A Charity This Season Of Giving

Redwood Shores, Calif. – In 2013, an expected $375 billion will be donated to charities.   To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits just released the 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofits List for Chicago.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Awards is the charity world’s equivalent of the “People’s Choice Awards.”   Volunteers, program participants, and donors submitted more than 40,000 reviews for this year’s awards program. Eighteen nonprofits won spots on the Top-Rated List in Chicago. Among these were nonprofits such as the Lungevity Foundation, Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest, and American Blues Theater.

The reviews came in the form of inspiring stories, like this one about Chicago Coalition For The Homeless:

“I’ve been to several events hosted by CCH. A great group of people with common purpose: to provide resources and social mobility for the homeless in Chicago and a common belief that housing is a human right. From Cheers for Change as an effective fundraiser to their awesome college scholarships programs, CCH is the flagship 501c3 if you share their belief that ending homelessness is a critical goal for the Chicago community. I do and that’s why I support and will continue to support.”

We’re in the giving season—when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofit List helps people easily find terrific national or local charities, that are making a difference.”

Craig Newmark, a philanthropist and founder of craigslist.org said, “GreatNonprofits is a great service for people interested in inspiring others to donate and volunteer at their favorite nonprofits. Folks can rate charities and share their firsthand experience with the organization. Now people can help each other discover nonprofits doing good work in their town.”
