Give Wisely This Season of Giving!

GreatNonprofits Publishes 2013 Top-Rated Charity List

This Season of Giving when most Americans donate and volunteer for nonprofits, GreatNonprofits, the largest nonprofit review site (like a Yelp for Nonprofits) announces the 2013 GreatNonprofits Top-Rated List.  Over 1,400 nonprofits ranging from national nonprofits to local nonprofits are on the list.  In 2013, an expected $375 billion[1] is expected to be donated to nonprofits.  The Top-Rated List of nonprofits helps donors find worthy charities.

Unlike other charity awards, the Top-Rated award winners were selected entirely by people who have had direct experience with the nonprofit . The volunteers, donors and people helped by the nonprofit. “This way,” says founder and CEO, Perla Ni, “the charities get valuable feedback from the public they serve. And with community feedback on the rise, what better way to understand the nonprofits and charities making a difference on the ground than from the people who experience it.”

The reviews often come in the form of inspiring stories, like this one about Wreaths Across America, an nonprofit serving Veterans: “I did not know about WAA until I lost my precious husband in 2008. God laid the program right in my lap, and it has been a blessing. To work all year long on a program to honor our fallen heroes and veterans is a blessing by itself. But to be part of a program that brings almost 4000 people together thrills your heart.  WAA is a program that cannot be described in few words… blessing…thanks…love…sharing…tribute…diginity… honor…memories…all come to mind. It is definitely a program of LOVE!” For more heart-warming stores, see the complete list of Top-Rated charities.

The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated List inspires and informs so that people can give wisely this Season of Giving.  Ni says, “Volunteers and donors can get inspired and informed by this Top-Rated list.  And companies looking to encourage employee giving and volunteering too –can use this list to increase volunteer engagement during this season of giving.”

The reviews and ratings span 32 issues such as animals, the environment, women’s issues, education, health, art and more. With over 5,500 city and issue pages, donors and volunteers can find charities in their cities; whether that’s New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco or even suburbs like Mountain View, California.

No matter the cause – be that providing medical relief like Global Links or improving literacy, like Room to Read — these charities are making a difference for their community.  What would we do without them?
