Redwood Shores, Calif. –  To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits released their annual list of Top-Rated Nonprofits. The 2015 Top-Rated Nonprofit List spans the entire country and covers a variety of causes. In 2014, Charitable giving reached $456 billion with the majority of giving happening at year’s end.

“We are heading into the season of giving back—when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This Top-Rated List makes it easy to find excellent nonprofits that help Syrian refugees, or local homeless people, or charities that help animals.”

Unlike other charity awards, the Top-Rated award winners were selected solely by people who have had involvement with the nonprofit as volunteers, donors, or those who have been helped by the nonprofit. Over 1,400 nonprofits made the list this year with over 37 issues addressed.  With over 25,000 city and issue pages, donors and volunteers can find charities in their cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Diego, Houston, Chicago, and San Francisco or even suburbs like Santa Ana, California.

Donors and volunteers can easily choose among causes that they are interested in. They can see photos of the nonprofit and read stories from people who have direct experience with the nonprofit.

Nonprofit stories are often inspirational and informative.

For those looking to help the Syrian refugees GreatNonprofits highlights some worthy nonprofits such as the Karam Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois,“Karam Foundation has consistently provided very necessary services to the Syrian people for the last four years, and it has done so with great transparency such that donors have confidence that their money is going where it is most needed.”

Stories are often from volunteers who have cherished their time at the organization, like this one from Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, “I’ve been regularly volunteering as a dog handler at adoption events for Lost Dog for over 5 years. Everything about this organization is about the health, safety and happiness of the animals. The volunteers who are the lifeblood of the organization provide so much hope and happiness for the animals, fosters, other volunteers and the adopting families. I feel lucky to be a part of their community.”

Many stories also come directly from the clients’ themselves like this one from Mission in Citrus, “I look forward to the day when I can give back as much as I can to the Mission because the Mission has done so much for me. I have a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, food in my stomach, and direction to improve my life for the better. I thank all the staff here for helping me everyway they can.”
