Want to volunteer or intern at a great Los Angeles nonprofit? Whether you’re new to LA, trying to change up your routine with some local charity work, or just want to volunteer or intern at a community not for profit, everyone knows that the best way to find the right place for you is from the people who’ve been there!

Here’s a list of volunteers’ and interns’ favorite Los Angeles charities. Every organization on this list has earned an overall score of 4 or greater out of 5 on, and must have been reviewed by at least 5 volunteers. If your favorite LA non-profit or volunteer gig is missing, find it on, write a positive review, and show your co-volunteers how to start adding reviews and get it on the list!

One Heart Source 1234.380955
“The month I spent volunteering with One Heart Source was one of the best months of my life. I felt like my time was well spent, and the work I was doing was meaningful in impacting a change for kids who need it. I will never forget my students. They have changed the way I look at the world and have driven me to want to do more for others. In fact, I hope to return next summer.”

Young Storytellers Foundation 1234.972225
“I am proud to be part of the YSF family. They teach literacy through the art of storytelling, but the kids (and mentors!) learn far more than that. The transformation of these children in the 8 weeks they are a part of this program is impossible to quantify- you can’t help but notice the drastic positive changes in these children. ”

Life Group LA 12345
“This is my 8th year facilitating. I first attended as a client and was transformed by the experience so much that I trained to be a facilitator. I have been HIV+ for 34 years. LG is by far the most compassionate, loving & giving of all the others, bar none. ”

A Place Called Home 1234.843755
“I have only started to volunteer at A Place Called Home and I’m already looking forward to doing more volunteer work with them. They offer so many services that are of great need to community and expose kids to different things that traditional schools either don’t have the resources for or funding.”

Wells Bring Hope 12345
“My decision to volunteer for Wels Bring Hope (WBH) is one of the best I’ve ever made in my life. Ever since its inception, WBH has continued to save lives by providing safe clean water for communities in Niger. Their cause is a noble one indeed.”

Create Now 1234.814295
“This nonprofit has impressed me more than any other I’ve run across in the last decade. They do so much, for so many at-risk kids, with so little! They are well run and organized. They are really giving young people the chance to envision different lives with more hope and possibility. A+”

National Council of Jewish Women Incorporated 1234.933335
“I can say that since I have become involved with NCJW/LA I have fulfillment in my life in making a difference.”

Free Arts for Abused Children 1234.980395
“Free Arts’ staff and volunteers exemplify dedication and constantly demonstrate how a non-profit should run. I could not have asked for a better experience! Everyday was such a rewarding experience and I hope to continue my involvement. ”

Center for Lifelong Learners 1234.777785
“The Center for LifeLong Learners has brought more fulfillment to my life through volunteering; and I know it has brought much help, fulfillment and opportunity to the children who attend!”

Busted Foundation 12345
“It’s truly inspiring and humbling these brave individuals fighting for their lives and their families! I am thankful Busted Foundation is around to help and proud to be a volunteer with them. Please help us to continue to help breast cancer fighters across the country!”
