Redwood Shores, Calif. –   As people are shopping local, eating local, this year they are also more interested than ever in supporting local charities. Charitable giving reached $456 billion in 2014 with the majority of giving happening at year’s end. To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits just released the 2015 Top-Rated List of Nonprofits in San Jose.

“We are heading into the season of giving back—when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This 2015 Top-Rated Nonprofit List helps people easily find terrific charities in San Jose that are making a difference.”

Donors and volunteers can easily choose among causes that they are interested in―such as animal shelters, arts, or education. They can also see photos and read vivid reviews by people who have direct experience with the nonprofit.

Some Top-Rated nonprofits in San Jose include:

  • Breakthrough Silicon Valley
  • Victory Ranch Inc
  • Human Connexus

Silicon Valley Shakespeare is an organization that reinterprets classic works for modern audiences to foster a passion for theater in its community. One reviewer said, “I consider SVS, formally Shady Shakes, my home theatre. When I was fresh out of University, SVS was the first theatre company to hire me. The company has supported me and motivated me to take on greater roles and build lasting connections that have propelled me forward in the industry.” Many stories also come from volunteers, like this one from the Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue: “I have volunteered and fostered birds for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue since 1997, and these people are simply the best! The organization is very well organized, and has maintained a 100% volunteer staff since its inception in 1995. When I attend their fundraising events, it is really inspiring to see so many of the volunteers working tirelessly in the effort to leave no bird behind. They really do make a difference.”
